Harjinder Kang serves as His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for South Asia and the British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India, having been appointed in May 2023. In this capacity, he leads the United Kingdom’s trade and investment strategy across the region, strengthening economic partnerships and advancing bilateral commercial engagement.
Prior to this appointment, he served as the UK’s Chief Negotiator for the UK–India Free Trade Agreement, alongside his role as Director for Trade Policy covering Intellectual Property, Government Procurement, and Core Text. He has also held the position of Director for Healthcare, Life Sciences, and Bioeconomy at the Department for International Trade. Before entering public service, he spent nearly three decades at AstraZeneca, where he progressed from a chemist in research and development to Global Commercial Director, leading initiatives to expand access to affordable medicines across emerging markets.
