About

We are delighted to host a visionary of Indian fashion.

Rina Dhaka is an acclaimed designer referred to as the ‘Gautier’ of the East by the BBC. She is celebrated for how she has combined traditional Indian fashions with modern-day fabrics such as Lycra and jersey. Many call her a fashion connoisseur – Rina invented Lycra Churidars. She regularly bridges traditionally rich and contemporary relevant styles in her fashion collections. At India Fashion Week, her work was recognised as the best collection in Milan, and won the best designer award during Miami Fashion Week 2004.

Describing her designs for ‘women who think’, Rina Dhaka entered the Indian fashion scene in the 1980s. Since then, her work has represented India globally and she has exhibited in New York, London and around the world. She has dressed global faces such as Naomi Campbell, Tara Palmer Tomkinson and Uma Thurman, while retailing across the world.

She has created collections which centre sustainability as the way forward in fashion and is a PETA India Ambassador. Collaborating with the NGO Smile and Honor, Dhaka dedicated profits from her Indian Couture Week show to their operations in raising awareness for girl child empowerment.

This conversation will be moderated by Sangeeta Waldron. Waldron is a multi-award winning Public Relations professional with over two decades’ worth of experience, founding her own successful London based PR agency, Serendipity PR & Media. She is a Commetric’s Top 100 PR Influencer, a Top 15 Women Influencer in PR and Communications. Additionally, she is a contributing global editor to India CSR, a news platform on sustainable business in India. Waldron recently released a new book titled ‘’Corporate Social Responsibility is not Public Relations’’.

The session will be in a relaxed Q&A format, talking to Rina about her career, motivations  and her journey in taking Indian fashion global. After the session, we will have time for drinks, snacks and networking.
